On Sunday 6th September, we said farewell to Fr Lakeland at a parish BBQ. The weather held out for the afternoon as the parish gathered to pay tribute to Fr Lakeland after 26 years of service at St Clare's.
A lifelong Preston North End Fan, Fr Michael was presented with a number of gifts by none other than Sir Tom Finney. Following the football theme, the gifts included a signed card by all the players at PNE, a subscription to Sky Sports and a cheque for £500.
Fr Michael is noted for not wanting a fuss made of him but the parish could not let him leave without there being an opportunity to pass on our thanks and gratitude for the many years of service.
There were many tributes paid to Fr Lakeland.
Fr Michael left St Clares on 15th September when he became parish priest of Hill Chapel, Goosnargh.
