With great sadness we learned that Fr Michael Lakeland, Parish Priest of St Clare's 1982-2008, died on 17th July.
Fr Lakeland is fondly remembered at St Clare's for the kindness and love he showed during his long service here. Parish Priest for 26 years, he guided the parish for more than half of its life so far. He has always held a special place in the hearts of parishioners here, and he always loved the parish. His last visit here was for the blessing of the new statue of St Clare last November, and earlier in 2018 he joined us for the blessing of the narthex (he is pictured below at that event, with his successors Canon Chris Loughran and Fr Andrew Allman).
Funeral Arranagments
Fr Lakeland's body will be received into St Clare's church at 6pm on Monday 5th August, at which time Mass will be celebrated by the Dean, Canon Adrian Towers, who was previously assistant priest under Fr Lakeland here at St Clare's 1991-1993.
Fr Lakeland's Requiem Mass will take place here on Tuesday 6th August at 11:30am, celebrated by the Bishop.
Everyone is welcome to attend either or both of these celebrations. Free parking is available on site for both Masses (though space is limited). On Monday parking is available from 5pm and on Tuesday, from 10:15am. For further details or information, please contact the parish office.
