The boys and girls on the First Confession Programme are heading up to the great day itself on the First Sunday of Advent. Today was a staging post in that journey; the boys and girls at the beginning of Mass received The Act of Contrition and prayed it as part of the Penitential Rite.
The Act of Contrition is that prayer that we should say often throughout the day and certainly before we go to bed at night. It is also said at the end of our confession to formalise our sorrow before we receive God's forgiveness from the priest.
After the Pentential Rite the girls and boys were dismissed to celebrate their own Liturgy of the Word in the Parish Hall. Here the Gospel is proclaimed to them and then 'broken' in a way that makes it accessible to the children.
