St Clare

High summer (sic) is not the best time to celebrate a patronal feast for so many people are away enjoying a restful holiday in the sunshine (!). However, the middle of August is when the Feast of St Clare falls so we have to make the best of it and honour her as best we can.

So it was that the picture of St Clare that hangs in the sacristy which commemorates the 800th anniversary of her birth, some years ago, is brought into the church and a little shrine made of it with lighted candles and flowers.

Because this parish is dedicated to St Clare the celebration ranks as a solemnity so the Mass was punctuated by hymns and singing the various parts of the Mass.

And afterwards, those present were invited to a small reception: a glass of wine and some nibbles and a general chit chat.

St Clare – Pray for us!
