Work is well underway on the demolition of the porch.
On Wednesday the contractors began the serious work of pulling down the old porch - all by hand - so that the work of constructing the narthex can begin. The porch will be completely down within a few days. The new building, of course, will take much longer. At one time God told the prophet Jeremiah that he was being appointed "to destroy... and to build" (Jeremiah 1:10) - and the same is true here!
The old porch looks a sorry sight now...
