They call it 'The Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper.' An apt name for at it we remember the actions of Jesus Christ at his Last Supper.

He was celebrating the Jewish Passover and he used its elements: the breaking of the bread, the sharing of the cup but changed them into the new and everlasting covenant. He did in a sacramental fashion with these elements what he would achieve the next day on the cross of Calvary.

This was all recalled in church even down to the washing of feet: twelve volunteers, some to be received into the Church on Saturday night, some of our young people preparing for Confirmation and others too. The priest knelt in front of each one and washed their feet just as Jesus had knelt to do the same for the Apostles. It was after this action by Jesus that he instituted the Eucharist and ordained his first priests with the word: Do this in memory of me.

At the end of the Mass the Blessed Sacrament was taken in solemn procession to the altar of repose in remembrance of Jesus' time in the garden of Gethsemane. Many parishioners stayed and 'watched' until late on there was the celebration of the Night Office of the Church, Compline.
